Welcome to Southern Oregon Stitchers. Our chapter is part of The Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Inc. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in needlework, whether it is cross stitch, needlepoint or other form of stitching or if you want to learn about embroidery. SOS welcomes your membership even if you don’t live close enough to go to our meeting. We have members who live in Minnesota and Scotland! Our chapter is part of the Greater Pacific Region, which encompasses northern California, northern Nevada, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska.
Southern Oregon Stitchers meets every month on the third Saturday at The First Presbyterian Church, 456 W. Pine Street, Central Point, Oregon. General meeting starts at 12:00 but please come early so our members can get to know you.
Southern Oregon Stitchers first met on Saturday, March 6, 1992. A small group of women who loved to embroider would meet at the Rogue Valley Manor, U.S. Hotel Ballroom in Jacksonville, Ashland Library, Meadows Club House and the Oregon History Center; all places in which SOS would gather, conduct EGA business and enjoy each other’s company.
We started out with a dozen members. Throughout the years, our stitchers have come and gone. Some have moved, some have found other interests, and others have passed away. Netta Rector, Marjorie Froeschle and Harriet Minnie will always be in our hearts. JoAnn Dixon, Betsy Greene, Patty Quinowski, and Jean Humphreys are still with us as founding members. (Way to go, ladies!)
To advertise our chapter, we would send notices to the Medford Mail Tribune, give lots of word of mouth, and post notices in fabric and yarn stores such as Mimi’s in Jacksonville. The call went out! Today, we post in all the papers, from Etna, California, to Grants Pass, Oregon. Later, SOS would post in the Grants Pass Courier. Our numbers continue to grow. Today we have 36 members.
2012 Membership Enrollment is now open! Learn more about our association and special events taking place this year. Interested in joining Southern Oregon Stitchers? Please contact us today. We look forward to talking to you!
We bring people of all ages together who share a common interest of stitching, to bond and create friendships and memories that last a lifetime.
